Dinner, Live Music, and a Cause Worth Coming Aboard For! September 26 is almost here, and we would love to have you aboard Cruise for a Cause! Join The Windsor Residence for Young Men for an evening on the Detroit River featuring a chicken and pasta dinner, live music from Top Decks, a cash bar, and views of the Windsor and Detroit waterfronts. Bring your partner, gather some friends, or make it an evening out with coworkers while supporting local youth experiencing homelessness. Our group rate makes coming together easier: four tickets for $500. That’s $125 per person, saving your group $100 compared with four regular tickets. Individual tickets are $150. We are grateful to EverJonge Homes, our Deck Sponsor, and Motor City Community Credit Union, our Entertainment Sponsor, for helping make this evening possible. Thank you as well to our Crew Sponsors: Unifor Local 195, Northstar Plumbing, Vanner Paralegal Services, RMP Advisors, and the sponsorship in memory of Dave Couvillon. Every ticket helps WRYM provide housing, practical life skills, and ongoing support as young people work toward stability and independence. Your evening out helps make that everyday work possible. Saturday, September 26, 2026 Windsor Premier Cruises Boarding begins at 5:15 p.m. | Cruise runs 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. Make your plans, invite your crew, and join us on the river! Back to School Begins with Stability September brings new classes, familiar routines, and plans for the year ahead. For young people experiencing homelessness, returning to learning can involve challenges that begin long before they enter a classroom. It is difficult to concentrate on school when you are unsure where you will sleep, whether you will have enough to eat, or where you can safely keep your belongings. When education has been interrupted, finding the confidence to return can be another hurdle. At The Windsor Residence for Young Men, safe housing and consistent support help create the conditions for learning. Regular meals, dependable routines, and someone available to help work through a difficult day give young people room to focus on their goals. Our Youth Independence Program (YIP) connects learning with everyday life. Through classroom lessons, young men develop skills in budgeting, employment readiness, communication, housing, and independent living. Youth who complete the program are also eligible for a high school credit through Public Alternative Secondary School (PASS). Learning how to manage money, communicate with an employer, or understand a rental agreement helps young people prepare for the responsibilities ahead. These are skills they can carry into school, work, and a home of their own. Progress looks different for each young person. It may mean returning to school, completing a credit, participating regularly, or finding the confidence to ask for help. Each step matters. As our community begins another school year, your support helps young people at WRYM access the stability, guidance, and opportunities they need to keep learning and move forward. When a Young Person Needs Help A young person may be attending school, showing up for work, or spending time with friends while quietly struggling to find a safe place to stay. They might be sleeping on different couches, facing the loss of their housing, or unsure where to turn when home is no longer safe. Teachers, relatives, employers, neighbours, and friends may be the first people they tell. Knowing where to turn can help that conversation lead to support. At The Windsor Residence for Young Men, we encourage young people and those concerned about them to reach out. You do not need to know which program might fit before making an inquiry. A conversation can help clarify the situation and identify possible next steps. Through our housing and community programs, WRYM provides practical guidance, emotional support, life-skills teaching, and help connecting with services. Our Aftercare and Outreach support also extends beyond the young men living in our residence. If someone shares that they are struggling, start by listening. Ask whether they would like help contacting support, and offer to make that first call together. Involving the young person in the conversation gives them a voice in what happens next. To ask about support or discuss a possible referral, call 226-221-8464. Our team can discuss available options and whether WRYM’s services may be appropriate. Please share this information with someone who works with or cares about young people. A timely connection can help a young person take their next step toward safety and stability.
