Back to School Donation Drive

One phrase that can stir up nostalgia quickly is "back to school".

For most of us, we can remember wondering who our teachers were going to be, what friends may be in our classes, or if people will like our outfit.

This is because most of us could rely on parents, family, and/or providers to make sure we had a bed to sleep in, food to eat, and school supplies to be successful.

For the youth WRYM helps, September is back to school too, but no family member is making sure they have a bed to sleep in, food to eat, nor supplies to be successful.  "Our guys" go back to school in a bed WRYM provides, eating the food we can afford to offer, and using supplies that get donated.

Please help us keep the dream of education alive for a young person going back to school by donating to WRYM (link below), OR, by donating school supplies that youth need, such as lunch snacks, backpacks, notebooks, binders, pens, pencils, etc.

Homelessness doesn't need to result in hopelessness.  With your help we can give a youth hope and the ability to be successful with school and continue their life.

"Whatever we've been trying, clearly it's not working";  The search to end homelessness - CTV News Article

The quote above is from Windsor City Councilor Renaldo Agostino, on August 28th, 2024 to CTV Windsor when discussing the homelessness problem in our city.

Despite the truth in Councilor Agostino's statement, one thing that is working - is WRYM!

Over the past three years, WRYM has maintained an average success rate of 87% in housing youth when they exit our services.

Councilor Agostino wasn't considering us in his statement, because we achieve our results without funding from The City of Windsor.

We are offering a solution that works.  Please spread awareness, consider investing in our services, or getting involved today!

From Hospital to College, with WRYM in between

This month, we want to spotlight one of the college-bound youth mentioned in our July Netletter.

Michael came to WRYM after three weeks in the hospital, because the trauma and unaddressed issues in his home led to suicide and mental health concerns.

Over the 16 months Michael was at WRYM, he graduated high school, got a job, and enrolled in College, where he will be entering the Architectural program.

Michael came to us as a teenager who felt hopeless, and is leaving us as a young man who is starting his life with a bright future ahead of him.

It takes time, effort, dedication, and a good team, but our system works.

When there is so much negativity in the news, it is important to remember the successes like Michael and for all of us to be reminded what we can achieve when we work together.
