WRYM's July 2024 Netletter

We have THREE Young Men starting College/University in September!

Our founding concept remains, "a hand up, not a hand out."  We offer youth a chance to rebuild their lives by giving them a safe environment, support, guidance, and life-skill teaching to overcome their current situation and move forward with the confidence and knowledge required to achieve their goals.

Sometimes, we simply amaze ourselves. Or, perhaps better said, "our guys" never cease to amaze us with what they can accomplish when they have the platform to succeed. In August/September, we have THREE young men who will be moving directly out of our residence, and into student house to attend College or University.

With one youth entering into Music / Digital Arts, one entering into Architecture, and one entering into Mobile Application Development, our entire team feels like proud parents watching their children "fly the nest."

We cannot express the amount of trauma and hopelessness each youth experienced before they came to us, but in less than 12 months for each of them, their lives have been completely turned around.  We don't just help people get housing.  We help them rebuild their lives.

Could It Become Illegal to Be Homeless in Canada?

On June 28th, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that it was illegal to be homeless.

​Alarmingly, we are already seeing this trend taking hold in Canada as communities grapple with the homelessness and housing crises.  But it's all a distraction from the real issue.

We need to invest in permanent solutions to homelessness:  housing and the programs that achieve results.

Art Therapy Starting for Past-Residents

In partnership with the Toronto Art Therapy Institute, WRYM is offering a 6 week Art Therapy program to past-residents at no cost to our organization or the youth participating.

This program was designed by our staff member Emily Robinson and one of her peers, who will be facilitating the sessions voluntarily in order to gain their practicum hours for their Master's Degree.

​Art Therapy is proven to have tremendous benefits with helping youth overcome trauma, increase their resiliency, and find connection with themselves through expression.
