What is "Rough Night Out"?
The Windsor Residence for Young Men's Rough Night Out is an annual fundraising event where participants raise pledges to support WRYM programming by spending the entire night "roughing it out" in the cold.  It's a night of challenges, camaraderie, and purpose - all in the spirit of helping young men in our community find stability, independence, and a brighter future.

While this event gives participants just a small glimpse of the challenges of being homeless in the cold winter months, it also brings together a community of fun, caring, and determined individuals looking to make a real difference.

This year, we are so excited to be partnering with St. Clair's Community Justice Program in planning and executing this event!

How it Works:
  1. Sign Up:  You can participate individually or as a team by signing up through our CanadaHelps page.
  2. Submit you Registration Form:  to executivedirector@wrym.ca.  The Registration document can be found under "edit my page" on your CanadaHelps event webpage (created in step #1).
  3. Raise Pledges:  Ask friends, family, and co-workers to support your night of "roughing it out" with donations that directly fund WRYM's life-changing programs for  young men experiencing homelessness.  Track your pledges on your Pledge Sheet, also found under "edit my page" on your CanadaHelps event page (created in step #1).  Please note that a registration fee of $20 is required, unless a pledge sheet/donations are provided exceeding that amount.
  4. Rough It Out:  On February 7, 2025, join us a St. Clair for a night of cold, fun, and friendship while making a tangible difference for those in need.

Why Participate?
The funds you raise will help support WRYM's mission to end homelessness for young men in Windsor-Essex by providing transitional housing, life-skills programming, and compassionate support.  Every dollar counts towards helping young men rebuild their lives and find hope for a better future.

our services

Transitional Housing Program
A 10-bed residential program that offers emotional support, life-skill teaching, case management, and housing acquisition. This program includes 24/7/365 staffing and support to help address a youth’s needs relating to their experience of homelessness.
Semi-Independent Living Program
A 2-bed residential program for graduates of Transitional Housing.  Semi-Independent Living residents still receive staff support and assistance where required, but they can gain experience coping with some of the challenges that will occur when living independently. 
Youth Independence Program
A 3-month classroom based life-skill curriculum, that runs Monday to Friday from 1 to 3 p.m.  Life-skills discussed in YIP ensure resiliency and enhance a resident’s self-reliance.  Youth who complete this program are eligible for a high school credit through the Public Alternative Secondary School (PASS).
Aftercare / Outreach Program
We provide support to any of our former residents who require assistance after leaving our home, as well as others who decide not to enter our program.  These services offered are geared towards housing retention, short-term crisis responsory, referral assistance, and/or emotional support.

​​​Bundle up!  Stay safe and warm!
Whether you join us at WRYM or participate at a location of your choice, you will be able to take breaks to warm up when you feel it's necessary and use what you need to keep yourself as warm as possible.  We will supply free handwarmers to those of you who participate at WRYM.
How can I participate?
There are two different ways - Individually or as a member of a team.

Too cold outside for your health to participate, no problem!  Why not spend the night indoors and have a wake-a-thon on your own or with members of your household.

It's Family Day weekend, so why not make it a family affair!!  Gather family members, coworkers, and friends together to form your team.  The more people you have, the more money you will raise and the faster  the time will go by.

A)  Windsor Residence for Young Men, 1505 Langlois Avenue, Windsor, ON N8X 4M3.         
B)  A location of your choice.
How can I register?
Simply use the buttons below to register.  If you are registering online, we will still need you to complete and sign the Registration Form and Participation Waiver below and email them to Sue at events@wrym.ca.  Both forms must be received by WRYM before your participation in WRYM's Rough Night Out 2024.
Collect your pledges!
The pledge sheet is for your use.  When the event is over, please return the pledge sheet with the money you raised to the Windsor Residence for Young Men, 1505 Langlois Avenue, Windsor, ON, N8X 4M3.  A tax receipt will be issued for pledges of $20 or more, so please ensure  you include the person's full name, address, and email address on the sheet next to their pledge.

Let's get creative to raise funds!
Why don't you create a fundraising page for you or your team.  Use your imagination, the sky's the limit!  Your fundraising page can be used to tell your story, set a personal fundraising goal, list your participants, track your progress, and receive online donations by sending a link to your fundraising page to family and friends.
It's not an easy challenge!
WRYM recognizes this is not an easy challenge, so we would like to reward those of you who go the extra mile with the one of the following prizes:
  • If you raise $500, you will receive a WRYM toque.
  • If you raise $1,000, you will receive a WRYM sweatshirt.
AND the individual who raises the most funds during WRYM's Rough Night Out 2024 will receive a gift basket full of warm goodies.

​The prizes will be rewarded at the end of the event once all funds are received and verified.  If you are a lucky winner, you will be notified by your preferred contact information.  At that time, if you won the sweatshirt, you will be asked for your size before the order is placed.  Once the order is received, you will be contacted to arrange a mutually convenient time to pick up or drop off your prize.
Activities are planned at WRYM!
​Join us for a barbeque at midnight!  We are offering this activity to all the brave souls that will be at WRYM.  A choice of a hamburger or hotdog with a coffee or hot chocolate will be offered.  Please indicate on your Registration Form if you plan to participate in this activity so we are prepared with the proper amount of food.  We will also have games and activities to help keep you warm and make the time go by faster.
